Won by One: All Greek Mission Trip

Every year Won by One hosts a mission trip to Harmons, Jamaica where Greeks come together with the purpose of serving others. This year, nine Thetas spent the last week of winter break in Harmons building houses, volunteering at the infirmary, and teaching at schools.

This year Lifestylez hosted the annual ski trip in Steamboat, Colorado. Theta's from every member class bundled up and hit the slopes for five days. Apart from testing the powder, the girls explored the quaint town of Steamboat and socialized with other Greeks on the trip.

While many of us packed up and went home for the holidays, Caitlin, Lindsay, and Maggie headed straight for the Big Apple. Caitlin worked in the fashion department of Cosmopolitan, Lindsay interned for Seventeen Magazine, and Maggie was an Editorial Intern at Marie Claire. Although they weren't with their families for the holidays, spending it with Theta sisters in New York City seems like a pretty great alternative! Congratulations on your amazing internships!

A large congratulations goes out to Kristen Wehmeyer (MC '09) and Kara Perconti (MC '10) for being selected to be members of the upcoming Greek Week next spring. Greek Week continues to be an annual competition that is more incorporates sports as a category for the greek pairings, instead of house decorations and parade like homecoming does. One of the tri-directors for Greek Week this year is also an Alpha Mu Theta, Katie Chitwood (MC '09). All three of you are going to do a great job, and we couldn't be more proud!

We also would like to congratulate Megan Selby (MC '10) and Nicole Minardi (MC '10) for being selected as members of the Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis Steering Committee for the upcoming spring. RAMS is an annual opportunity to raise awareness and money for a cure for MS. With events like Rock It (a lip-syncing competition) and Cup Night that involves cheap food and drinks downtown, it is a great program that does great things for MS awareness. One of the tri-directors for RAMS this year is also an Alpha Mu Theta, Alex Prestel (MC '08). We are so excited for all of you, and look forward to seeing your hard work in action!

Theta Has Annual Hayride!

Last Thursday, the women of Alpha Mu had one of their annual socials, Hayride! This social is always a great start to the fall season, with flannels and cowboy boots galore. Held outside at Midway, there was a bonfire that combated the chilly weather, and of course, a hayride for women and their dates to enjoy. Like always, everyone had a wonderful time and the social was a great success!

Theta Places 2nd in Homecoming Overall!

For the 100th year of Homecoming at MU, Alpha Mu Theta was paired with the men of Delta Tau Delta, and the pairing did a wonderful job! The theme of this years homecoming was "Celebrations," and KAT-DTD chose to celebrate the Olympics. Women in the chapter got to know the men of Delt very well over Homecoming, and we couldn't be prouder of all of our hard work! The pairing placed as follows:

Theta Initiates 88 New Members!

This past week was Initiation Week for Alpha Mu, which included three evening activities each night with older chapter women including tie-dying t-shirts, visiting a corn maze and making s'mores, and having early morning breakfast in a suite at Faurot Field. Initiation was this past Friday, September 30th, and our annual Big Sis Revelation was Sunday, October 2nd. As always, the new members finally found out their new big sisters with matching items for Big and Lil'. There was a picnic at Cosmo-Bethel park following revelation, giving everyone time to spend together and get to know one another even better. We are thrilled to welcome all 88 members of MC'11 to the Alpha Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta!

Alpha Mu Finishes Annual Philanthropy Week!

The past two weekends, Alpha Mu has been very busy with their annual philanthropy! The first weekend kicked off our Philanthropy Week, starting with our Flag Football tournament. With more than twenty men's teams entered, the tournament was held both Friday night and Saturday night. The tournament was a huge success yet again, with two Theta coaches per team! Following the tournament, we had a week to tell everyone we knew about our Pancake breakfast! Held this past Friday from 5 PM-7 PM for the community and CASA volunteers and 10 PM-3AM for campus students, we had one of our craziest nights yet. At one point, the line for pancakes was out the door, and this year we raised even more money in one night than our record from last year! We are still waiting on the final numbers, but thanks to everyone who supported our philanthropy, as well as all of the Thetas who worked so hard to make it the success it was!

Theta Has Annual All Member Retreat!

This past Friday, Alpha Mu held the annual all member retreat! Women of the chapter had a large conference room rented out at the Stoney Creek Inn, a local hotel. They held dinner for the women Friday night, and they were able to have an overnight retreat. It was especially beneficial for the new members of MC '11 as it was a chance to get to know each other, as well as some of the older members. With fun activities and games to play, it was definitely a night to remember!

Recruitment Update: Sisterhood Day

For the second round of formal recruitment, the women of Alpha Mu hosted the potential new members in a new, fun, Candyland theme! The women of the chapter wore white dresses with red accessories to represent peppermints, and the bottom floor of the house was covered in whimsical, glittered lollipops and candy canes. With a fun skit put on for the potential new members, this round of recruitment was a much more relaxed environment, and everyone was able to be themselves. We certainly enjoyed hosting the potential new members again, and we are looking forward to getting our new pledge class!

Recruitment Update: Open House Day

This past Monday, Formal Recruitment began for 1,654 new potential members at the University of Missouri! Similar to this past year, the women of Alpha Mu rocked the hair flip the past two days while welcoming the potential new ladies to our house for the first time. All members of Alpha Mu Theta truly enjoyed getting to know each girl, and we are even more excited to continue to get to know them better as the week progresses! Two days down, two days closer to find our new pledge class!

Theta Hosts Mock Recruitment!

After a very busy work week, the women of Alpha Mu had a mock recruitment for all families of current Thetas and alumnae in the area earlier this afternoon. Not only was it a great way for members to practice before formal recruitment begins this Monday, it was a fun and exciting event for the families to see, too! The ladies put on their skit performance for the families and alumnae, and following the skit performance, everyone was offered refreshments and snacks in the courtyard. All participating ladies also received a work week shirt for all of their hard work, designed by our own Recruitment Chair, Mary Fama! It was a great way for the girls to show all of the hard work they have put into recruitment thus far, and they all enjoyed seeing their loved ones!

Spotlight on: Megan Selby, Colorado Camp Counselor!

This summer, Megan Selby (MC '10) left the comfort of the beach in her hometown of Pensacola, Flordia to experience the sights and sounds of the Rocky Mountains! Volunteering as a camp counselor at Easter Seals Rocky Mountain Village in Empire, Colorado, Megan works with kids and adults with physical and/or mental disabilities. She is able to work with her campers doing horseback riding, swimming, zip line, fishing, arts and crafts, music and drama. Megan says that this has been one of the most incredible experiences and it has changed her life forever in the most positive way.

On the weekends, Megan has been able to spend time camping, bouldering (rock climbing), and hiking mountains. Next weekend she plans to hike a 14,000 ft mountain which is one of the highest elevations in Colorado. We are so proud of Megan for embracing this wonderful opportunity and we can't wait to have her back in the fall!

Spotlight on: Emily Armstrong, Fashion Intern!

Emily Armstrong (MC '09) is one of the most creative members in the Alpha Mu chapter, and this summer she is able to showcase her creativity! Emily is an intern at the Donna Karan fashion collection in New York City, working in the Fabrics/Sample room. Emily is able to see the entire process of the creation of garments, which is a great opportunity for an art student to witness. She runs errands to buy errands to buy fabric, delivers garments to the showroom, and is also able to buy her own DK apparel at the sample sales! With her internship, she has been able to attend a Project Runway runway show for the new season, meet Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, and Nina Garcia, and is also going to be a part of a fashion program through Parsons School of Design where designer Derek Lam will be speaking. It looks like Emily is having a famous time in New York City, and she looks very at home there. We couldn't be more proud of her!

Meredith Norfleet Gets Accepted into the Bryant Scholars Program!

A huge congratulations to our own Meredith Norfleet (MC '10) for becoming a Bryant Scholar! The Lester R. Bryant Scholarship Program at Mizzou is a Pre-Admission scholarship for those applying to medical school. The program is for students who went to a rural high school, and plan on continuing their careers in medicine in a rural community later in life. Students are selected in the summer between their freshman and sophomore year at MU, and after they complete a paper application they attend two interviews before being selected. It is a very competitive process, and about 8-10 students get selected every year. Because of her selection, Meredith is already admitted into the University of Missouri's School of Medicine following her undergraduate years without having to take the MCAT or interview for the school. Congratulations on this incredible achievement, Meredith! We couldn't be more proud of you!

Lindsey Wilson of MC '10 is getting involved in her field of interest right off the bat this summer, working as an intern for Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics! As a Pre-Nursing major, Lindsey is getting all kinds of medical experience with the program. Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics is a nation wide company, and is the leading provider for all prosthetics and orthotics in the nation. Hanger helps amputees and individuals with musculoskeletal disabilities and injuries improve their quality of life, and Lindsey has the opportunity to be working with patients who have lost their arms and legs. Lindsey is stationed at the University of Kansas Medical Center full time this summer, and we know she is already doing a great job there! Congratulations on such an incredible opportunity, Lindsey!

Spotlight On: Amanda Sudduth, Biomedical Engineer Intern!

Amanda Sudduth (MC '09) has always been involved as a research assistant for biomedical engineering here at the University of Missouri, and this summer she has a chance to shine in Washington, D.C.! The internship is with the National Institutes of Health's Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program. There are 16 interns from all across the country selected for the program, so Amanda had a competitive pool of qualified students she was up against for the internship. It is a 10-week long program, and her project for the summer has to do with rehabilitation engineering-specifically rehabilitation robotics and its use in helping analyze the effect of strokes and brain injuries on an individual's walking pattern. With all of her previous research experience, Amanda is definitely more than qualified for the position, and we couldn't be more proud! Congratulations on this incredible opportunity in the biomedical engineering field, Amanda!

Spotlight On: Sarah D'Amico, Au Pair Extraordinaire!

Being an Au Pair in a European country sounds like one of the best jobs in the world, and our own Sarah D'Amico (MC '10) is living the dream! Sarah recently settled in San Martino, a part of a small village in Rio, which is in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Sarah and her sister, Emma, are currently in Italy nannying two kids, Giulia and Alberto, for the next seven weeks. Sarah will also be teaching the children English while she watches them, and in return is practicing and improving her Italian as well! On the weekends she has the opportunity to travel to Venice, Florence, Carrara, and Bologna, where her family is originally from. Sarah is getting the full Italian experience and we can't wait to hear all about her trip when she returns home! Congratulations on the exciting opportunity, Sarah!

Anna is working for a marketing, events planning, and public relations firm on Sunset Boulevard called Harrison & Shriftman PR. The firm specializes in building brands in the luxury sector, including the fashion, travel and hospitality, lifestyle, publishing and entertainment industries, and has worked with clients like Juicy Couture, Jimmy Choo, and Blackberry. As the former social chair for Alpha Mu, we know that she is more than qualified for the position and will do great work for the firm this summer! Congratulations on this amazing opportunity, Anna! We are all so proud of you!

The summer season for weddings is upon us, and we are so excited for our own Erica Mendez (MC'06)! Erica was just married last Saturday to her Theta sweetheart, Joshua Babcock. The beautiful wedding took place at King Hill Christian Church in St. Joseph, MO, and many Thetas were in attendance. Erica's younger sister, Raquel (MC'10) was her maid of honor, with Stephanie Oesch and Allie Taylor (both MC'07) as two of her bridesmaids. Erica was very involved in Theta as an undergraduate student, and we could not be more happy for her! Congratulations Erica and Josh!

Spotlight On: Catherine O'Neill, Beauty Expert!

Catherine O'Neill has always been incredibly passionate about two things: beauty, and writing about beauty. Now, she finally has a chance to do what she loves! As a recent graduate of the University of Missouri this past May, Catherine has been incredibly involved with things on campus since the day she started college. As a Theta, she had positions ranging from Scholarship Chair to Vice President Panhellenic, and she also was recognized as one of the top 39 seniors at MU known as the Mizzou '39 Program. She was very involved in the School of Journalism here, as well. With so much involvement at MU the past four years, we knew she was destined for great things following graduation. Last summer, Catherine worked as an intern in the beauty department at Fitness Magazine in New York City, and after much anticipation and interviews, Catherine now works at her favorite magazine, Allure Magazine, as a full time assistant to the beauty director. We are so proud of Catherine and can't wait to see the great things she accomplishes in the future!

Spotlight on: Lauren Zima, MTV Star!

When Lauren Zima graduated from the University of Missouri in 2009, we knew she was destined for great things. In her time on campus, Lauren was extremely involved in many different organizations. She spent hours working on her Journalism degree, kept us laughing as a staple actress in every Theta skit, and quickly developed a love for Improv as a member of Mizzou's Comedy WARS. After Graduation, she went off to pursue a career doing what she loved. Two years later, she's living in LA and has a role as a cast member in MTV's new show Disaster Date!

Disaster Date is MTV's hilarious hidden camera prank dating show with an all new cast of actors, including our very own Lauren Zima! We are so excited to be able to celebrate the accomplishments of our Theta sisters on this blog, including the one who founded our mizzoutheta blog in her time at Mizzou! Lauren has left her mark in Columbia, and we're sure she'll leave it in LA. Congratulations, Lauren!

Theta Celebrates Panhellenic Sisterhood with Kappa Kappa Gamma

Every semester, women in the Panehellenic community of Mizzou celebrate Panehellenic sisterhood by joining another sorority and planning sisterhood events. This spring, Theta was paired with Kappa Kappa Gamma. Last Thursday, the women of Kappa and Theta met up for a Greek Town clean-up, followed by tie-dying t-shirts in Theta's front lawn. There was a great turnout for both chapters, and it was a great evening of sisterhood and getting to know one another before Kite and Key! The sisterhood activities followed by our annual Kite and Key date party on Friday were a fantastic way to end the semester! A big thanks to Katherine Hauser (MC '09), our Events chair for putting together another great Kite and Key social!

Alex Prestel (MC '08) was recently named one of the new RAMS Tri-Directors! RAMS stands for Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis, which is one of Mizzou's largest annual fundraisers. It includes a lip-syncing competition and multiple service events that raise awareness for the disease and support the local MS chapter. Alex has served on the Steering Committee for the past two years, putting hours time and effort into the cause. We are so proud that she has been selected for this position. Congratulations, Alex!

Theta's Golden Girl Legacy Lives On

Theta is honored to have such talented girls in our house, especially ones that accomplish amazing things on campus. Year after year we are lucky to call some of our Mizzou Golden Girls Theta sisters. This year, as one of our older members retires as a Golden Girl, we had a younger girl make the team, continuing the legacy.

The Golden Girls are part of the Mizzou Spirit Squad bringing glitz and glamour to our sporting events, celebrations and more. It is an extremely honored position that takes lots of dedication and hardwork. At the annual tryout for the University of Missouri's Golden Girls, we had a fabulous Theta dancer make the team! We are so happy for Kerri Williams (MC '10) on her acceptance onto the team!

We would also like to recognize Laura Young (MC' 08), and our current Chapter President, for her past three years of participation in Golden Girls! She has been a wonderful representation of Theta on the team and we know Golden Girls was lucky to have you.

MI CASA ES SU CASA Mexican Dinner

This Friday, Kappa Alpha Theta held their third annual Mi Casa Es Su Casa Mexican Dinner! In honor of our philanthropy CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, we hosted a late night mexican dinner at our chapter house. From 11pm - 2am, Theta's helped serve hot quesadillas, mouth-watering nachos and salsa bar. With wonderful donations from local businesses and mexican restaurants, we were able to raised over $5,500 for CASA!

Everyone had a great time enjoying the delicious food, visiting with friends, and raising money for a great cause!

Mizzou Students filled the Theta basement eager for delicious mexican food from 11pm - 2am on Friday night.

Thetas cooked and worked in the kitchen all night, serving our hungry guests.

Freshmen Sarah D'Amico, Maggie Henriksen, and Megan Christy work in the kitchen serving endless nachos and quesadillas.

This year we also continued to raise money for CASA by selling new colors of Theta Loves Me shirts! With the help of our Merchandise Chair, Liza Lyon (MC '09) we continued to sell Theta Loves Me shirts to our family members, friends, and CASA supporters!

Special thanks to our wonderful Philanthropy Chair Kaitlin Roweton (left) who did a phenomenal job organizing this event! We can't wait for our annual Pancake Breakfast this fall. Mark your calendars for the event on Friday, September 16th!

Courting for Homecoming 2011!

Last week we had the pleasure of being courted by three different fraternity parings in order to determine our Homecoming partners for 2011. This year marks the 100th year of Homecoming, and with the theme of "Celebrations" we couldn't be more excited to have such awesome partners to pick from.

On Wednesday we were courted by the men of Alpha Epsilon Pi and Delta Chi. They brought an entire petting zoo to the Theta front yard and had horseback rides for Thetas to take around Greek Town. They also had a bounce house and snow cones for us to enjoy! They finished the day with an awesome serenade. It was so much fun being able to spend the day meeting new guys!

On Thursday, we were courted by the men of Delta Tau Delta who covered our house in love notes, balloons, and streamers. In addition, they built us glittered kites, a tiki bar with delicious lemonade, sweet tea, and smoothies, and a trampoline. We spent the afternoon playing volleyball in the yard, listening to music and getting to know some awesome Delts. At the end of the day, they serenaded us with a great skit.

On Friday, we were courted by the men of Alpha Gamma Rho. They took advantage of the beautiful weather and brought a bunch of yard games to the Theta front yard. In addition, they provided us with limo rides around campus! They also pomped us a beautiful black and gold kite and brought cookie cakes to share!

After a successful week of courting, we can't wait to find out who we will be with for Homecoming 2011! Stay tuned for an update on our Homecoming partners for the Centennial Celebration!

Theta takes home Excellence Cup at Greek Honors Night!

Each year, the University of Missouri honors Greek chapters for their contributions to the Greek community and to the rest of campus. This evening, they held Greek Honors Night, bringing sororities and fraternities together to celebrate their achievements. The women of Kappa Alpha Theta were recognized for their outstanding leadership on campus with many different awards!

We received the Excellence Cup (For Over-All Excellence), President's Cup (For Leadership), Columbia Cup (For Service and Philanthropy), New Member Scholarship Award, Member Development Award, and Community Leadership Award.

We are so proud of Alpha Mu for their recognition on campus! Special thanks to Jaime Henry-White (MC '10) on her exceptional work as our Awards Coordinator!

Greek Week 2011!

Last night marked the end to this month's Greek Week festivities! Paired with the men of Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Tau Gamma and Acacia, Kappa Alpha Theta sure made their mark on this year's Greek Week.

Participating in events including games, talent, service, blood drive, and special events, we worked to celebrate and highlight all the talents of the Greek community here at the University of Missouri. Overall, we had a great time bonding with our fraternity pairings and working together to support our wonderful beneficiary, Honor Flight.

Teaming up with Honor Flight, we were able to help give back to the men and women who have done so much for our country! Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that helps to honor American Veterans by giving them a chance to visit their war memorials in Washington D.C. This year, our grouping was honored to help support such a wonderful cause. We were able to participate in the welcome home ceremony for some of our local veterans!

Also, during the Can Castle competition as part of the service event, we wrapped our cans in aluminum foil and built an airplane to represent Honor Flight! Overall, Greek Week collected 27, 345 cans of food which will provide over 20,560 meals. In addition, 1,716 units of blood were donated and 1,680 hours of community service were dedicated to the Columbia, MO community.

This year we placed 1st in sports winning flag-football, basketball, soccer, and volleyball! Shout out to Erin Tatman (MC '09), our Intramurals Chair for all her dedication to sports this spring!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to such a successful Greek Week! We are so thrilled to have placed 5th overall! A special thanks to our Theta liaisons, Kaleigh Glaza (MC '08) and Amanda Sudduth (MC '09).

We also had two Thetas selected for Greek Week Sweet 16 Royalty! Shout out to seniors Cyreia Sandlin (MC '07) and Annie Hildebrandt (MC '07) who where chosen to represent Theta for the entire Greek community!

10 Thetas honored at MU Tap Day!

The University of Missouri hosted its 84th annual Tap Day ceremony yesterday, April 22 at Jesse Hall. Tap Day is one of Mizzou's oldest traditions, where secret societies select individuals based on their campus involvement, academic achievements, and selfless service to others. The six secret societies reveal their newest members at this prestigious ceremony. We are proud to announce that 10 outstanding Alpha Mu Thetas were tapped into secret societies!

Theta's Enjoy Relaxing Spring Break!

Last week, the ladies of 603 Kentucky were able to spend 7 days away from papers, tests, and all work at MU with the arrival of spring break! From going on a cruise, traveling to New Orleans, or flying down to Florida, many Thetas found a way to relax. After a crazy semester, this break was well deserved to say the least! Mom's Weekend 2011 & ELC visit!

This past weekend was Mom's Weekend! The ladies of Theta went to Deja Vu on Friday night for a comedy show starring Dave Coulier (Joey from Full House). The next morning, there was a brunch and silent auction held at Peachtree Banquet Center. All of the money raised from the silent auction is going towards remodeling the dining area of the basement. Overall, it was a great weekend spending time with family!

Special thanks to Katherine Hauser (MC '09), our Events Chair for dedicating so much time and energy to putting on a fantastic weekend!

Finally, Theta hosted one of our Educational Leadership Consultants, Kristen Whitaker from March 12th- March 16th. She gave the women many great suggestions in ways to improve the chapter, and we loved hosting her!

This morning, two ladies of Theta discovered they would be on Homecoming Steering Committee 2011, along with one of our own as a Tri-Director of the committee. Homecoming is always a very exciting time of year, and Thetas at Mizzou always throw their hearts into celebrating the huge tradition. This year, Mizzou will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first Homecoming in the entire country (founded in 1911), so selecting the members of the 2011 Steering Committee was a difficult task with many applicants. We are so proud of Rachel Litzelfelner (MC '09) and Rebecca Johnson (MC '10) for being selected, and Kelly Heins (MC '08) for throwing her time and energy into being a Tri-Director! Mizzou '39 Selects Outstanding Seniors!

Four incredible seniors were also recognized for their accomplishments this weekend for receiving the honor of being selected as part of Mizzou '39. This is a program in which the top 39 seniors at the university are honored as outstanding members of the Mizzou community for their academic achievement, leadership, and service to Mizzou, put on by the Mizzou Alumni Association and the Alumni Association Student Board. Annie Hildebrandt, Cassie Batchelder, Catherine O'Neill, and Jacquelinne Mejia were all selected and honored at the Mizzou '39 Banquet this past Saturday night. A huge congratulations to each of them for this extraordinary honor that was definitely well-deserved!

Theta Wins RAMS Rock-It for the Fifth Year in a Row

The ladies of Theta again participated in Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis (RAMS) this year, a campus-wide philanthropy raising money for those facing the terrible disease. This year, the program raised over $76,000 for awareness and support for those diagnosed. One of the most exciting events is RAMS Rock-It, a lip-synching contest between both sororities and fraternities on campus. The ladies of Theta placed 1st in Rock-It again this year with a fabulous "Burlesque" themed performance (based off of the hit movie), making it the fifth consecutive win for Theta! With all of the hard work that the ladies put in, Theta also placed 1st overall in RAMS this year, making it a very exciting weekend for all.

Four Thetas Selected for Outreach Student Recruitment Team!

Thetas of all ages were also celebrated this weekend as four MC '10 ladies were selected to be members of Mizzou Outreach Student Recruitment Team. For the next two years, Rebecca Dunn, Margaret Cleveland, Meredith Norfleet, and Kerrigan Williams (all MC '10) will attend Meet Mizzou Days, Black and Gold Days, college fairs and other events for high school seniors visiting our university, encouraging them to apply and attend the University of Missouri. Sweetheart Valentine's Day Social with Pi Beta Phi!

The ladies of Theta also had their first social event of the semester yesterday. It was the annual Sweetheart Social, and this year we co-hosted with the ladies of Pi Beta Phi. Last weekend, we celebrated our 141st year as a national fraternity! The celebration was again held at the Uppercrust, with many current and alumnae Theta's present. The program included learning about our founders, Betty Locke, Bettie Tipton, Alice Allen, and Hannah Fitch, sharing a luncheon together, and singing our songs with our wonderful music chair, Stefanie Duff, leading us. It was a wonderful day for Alpha Mu Thetas to recognize and celebrate our history!

Theta Gears Up for a New Semester After an Eventful Break

Many students relax at home over the five-week long winter break in between the fall and spring semesters, but many Thetas took full advantage of their time off from classes and Mizzou. From zip lining through the trees of Costa Rica to serving families in need in Jamaica, Theta was well represented outside of the city of Columbia. Here are a few examples of the exciting things the women of KAT did over break:

Kate Bohnert, an MC '09 member, had the opportunity to study abroad for two weeks in San José, Costa Rica. Kate studied Spanish there, and when she wasn't spending time in class, she had the opportunity to travel around the country. The first weekend she spent time in Tortuguero National Park where she was able to zip line and hike through the canopies of the rainforest and sea kayak in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean. The second weekend she traveled to a private island in the Pacific. Kate had a great time, and can't wait to go back to Costa Rica!

Another exciting trip that happened over winter break was to the city of St. Louis for the executive retreat. All executive members of the Alpha Mu chapter went to the Sheraton hotel in Clayton, MO for the weekend to get to know each other better and work on the goals for the chapter for the rest of the year. Friday evening the members were able to learn how to work together, along with their advisors, in The Kitchen Conservatory with Chef Kirk Warner. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn one another's leadership styles, along with learning how to cook some great recipes! The executive board had a great weekend with some great ideas, and is looking forward to seeing them play out in the next year.

Finally, six of our current members had the opportunity to travel to Jamaica for a mission trip. This mission trip occurs annually and each person who is selected to serve goes through an interview process, with around 40-50 people selected each year. These lovely Thetas collected donated clothing before they left, and while there, the group built two houses for two poverty-stricken families. With hard work, both houses were completed within a week. Each member had such a great experience lending a hand to those and need, and we are so lucky to have such incredible women in KAT!

Those activities, along with many more, kept Thetas busy this winter, and we are excited to see what kinds of exciting things happen in the coming semester!

Thetas Celebrate a Perfect Homecoming!

If you heard a Theta say it was the "best weekend ever" she wasn't lying! Homecoming weekend couldn't have been more perfect for the Alpha Mu Thetas this year. After an incredible win against Oklahoma on Saturday, the Thetas were treated to another Homecoming win on Sunday night!

Theta hosts Grand Council Members

This semester, we had the honor of hosting members of Theta's Grand Council! Fraternity President Amy Kates and Fraternity Vice President College Paige Ellerman came to congratulate us on our Founder's Award and meet our members. We enjoyed giving them a tour of the campus and our chapter house, swapping Theta stories at a special "mocktail" party and welcoming them to our weekly chapter meeting. It was a true example of "Theta for a lifetime."

We had a wonderful turn-out for our annual pancake breakfast — Quarterbacks and Flapjacks! This philanthropy event, which has turned into a Greek town tradition, draws hundreds of people to our basement for late-night breakfast! Our women work in the kitchen from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. flipping pancakes, pouring orange juice and handing out syrup — all for CASA! Theta Takes a "Risk"

With Homecoming less than a month away, the women of Theta and the men of Alpha Gamma Sigma and Sigma Nu decided to kick things off with a "marriage" party. This age-old tradition celebrates the pairing of a sorority and fraternity for Homecoming. The social is a great way to meet our fraternity partners who we will be working with through October. This year, the theme for Homecoming is board games. Our game, Risk, gave us a perfect opportunity to "take a risk" and dress up in camo. We are so excited for all the other activities we have planned with them this month!

Celebrating our last official days of summer, Thetas hopped into their cars on Friday for a fun-filled Labor Day weekend. Some women roadtripped out to St. Louis to cheer on the Tigers at our first away game. Others visited their sisters' hometowns for a weekend of relaxing, laying out by the pool and spending quality time together. Even those who stayed in Columbia enjoyed the warm weather with morning runs and rooftop dinners. We're already looking forward to next weekend when we can root for Mizzou together at our first home football game!

Recruitment Update: Philanthropy Day

Today was Rock the CASA at Theta! We had a great time giving potential new members a VIP tour of the chapter house. The women learned more about our philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). This organization, which represents abused and neglected children in court, is very close to our hearts. We were so excited to share more about this cause and the events we hold during the year to support it. In addition to our philanthropy, we also couldn't wait to show the women our chapter house! As they toured the facility, our sisters shared their favorite memories of Theta and how it has inspired them to be "rockstars" themselves. A huge thank you to Hannah Rone and our committee members for organizing such a great day. We can't believe tomorrow is Preference Day! Where has this week gone? We can't wait to meet our new member class on Saturday!

Recruitment Update: Sisterhood Day!

We had an absolute blast during Sisterhood Day! Going with a whimsical Alice in Thetaland theme, Thetas put flowers in their hair and welcomed the potential new members back to the chapter house for a fun and relaxing day. Our hilarious skitters took it away on the stage — making us double over in laughter. We were so proud of our dancers who performed an awesome glow-in-the-dark number. A special thank-you to Grace Carlson who put together the gorgeous decorations, Tria Thomas who created the awesome costumes, Leslie Muench, Sandy Ruiz and Abbie Schmid who directed our skit and Cara Keeble who choreographed those unforgettable dances. And we can't forget to thank Kelsey Mirando and Lexi Perconti who organized the entire day! We're so excited to introduce the potential members to our CASA (our chapter house and philanthropy) today!

Over the past two days, Thetas welcomed 1,452 women into our chapter house! We loved meeting all the potential new members and seeing their enthusiasm for joining the Greek community. The theme of the day — "GO GREEK!" — set the tone for a fantastic week! We can't wait to show the women our skit tomorrow during Sisterhood Day. For now, it's time to slip off our black pumps, eat dinner together and settle in for some rest and relaxation (and maybe some Glee reruns!).

Thetas Take Over the Big Apple!

This summer, six Thetas took a bite out of the Big Apple! Kelsey Mirando (MC '07), Michelle Flandreau (MC '07), Kate Johnson (MC '07), Mary Fama (MC '08), Catherine O'Neill (MC '07) and Caitlin Miller (MC '09) all enjoyed fabulous internships in New York City. When they weren't running around for their jobs, the women found time to explore the amazing city together!

Michelle Flandreau: Michelle interned at Good Morning America where she assisted producers, compiled video packages and organized concerts in the park. She even squeezed some of her Theta sisters into VIP to see Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus perform! Michelle discovered a love for Broadway, where she attended numerous shows. We'll see if she sticks with broadcast or moves to the big stage. :)

Kate Johnson: Kate worked at FasTracKids on the Upper West Side as a teacher's assistant. Kate tutored elementary age kids in reading and math and also helped teach a science enrichment program. In her time off, Kate loved exploring the city and spending time with her older sister, Janna, who's also an Alpha Mu alumna!

Kelsey Mirando: Kelsey was selected to be a part of the competitive ASME internship program. This program, organized by the American Society of Magazine Editors, hosted numerous guest speakers and exciting journalism events. Kelsey spent her summer interning at Ladies Home Journal — just across the hall from another Theta! They often enjoyed lunch together in Bryant Park. There's nothing like having a Theta sister around to make the work day go faster!

Michelle and Kelsey walked across the Brooklyn Bridge for a bite of Grimaldi's pizza!

Mary Fama: Mary, our favorite photographer in Theta, took her skills to Rachel Rae Magazine. There, she assisted editors, worked on photoshoots and drooled over yummy food. Outside of the studio, she explored New York, taking gorgeous photos of the sights and sounds of the city that never sleeps.

Mary Fama's best friend (A Theta and a Pi-Chi!) came to visit her in New York City!

Catherine O'Neill: Catherine interned in the beauty department at Fitness Magazine. When she wasn't trying out new lip glosses and mascaras, she interviewed skin care experts and wrote for the website and magazine. In her time off you could find her at her favorite spot in the city, La Esquina, where she ate more fish tacos than she's comfortable admitting.

Catherine lived with twenty other Mizzou women through the New York Program, including some fabulous Delta Gammas and Alpha Phis!

Caitlin Miller: If you've noticed Caitlin wearing gorgeous jewelry lately, it's because of her awesome internship in the city! Caitlin worked alongside Indian jewelry maker, Amrita Singh, where she helped fill goody bags, sent samples to magazines like Vogue and Brides and assisted with photoshoots. Caitlin loved living in the East Village where she found her favorite spot, Artichoke Pizza.

Thetas have been working hard painting, glittering and getting the chapter house ready for recruitment next week. To reward them for their hard work, our recruitment chairmen surprised them with a special treat this morning. Manicure artists and massage therapists transformed the basement into a relaxing day spa for the girls. Spotlight on: Becky Berg, London Intern!

The girls are back in the chapter house for Work Week, but we're missing a Theta across the pond! Junior Becky Berg (MC '08) is living in London this summer while interning for CBS News.

During her days at the station, Becky works on live shots, films segments, assists film crews, contributes to the website and even writes stories! Outside of the studio, Becky loves immersing herself in the London culture. She took in a polo match, had tea at The Ritz, visited Buckingham Palace and explored the sites and sounds (hello, English accents!) of the beautiful city.

She even had the opportunity to visit Europe, including Brussels where she visited Theta sister Cassie Batchelder (MC '08). From the looks of it, we'll be lucky if London gives her back!

Theta Awarded the Mizzou Ring

Each year, the Mizzou Alumni Association honors four outstanding upperclassmen for their contributions to the University. Our very own, Kara Oberkrom, was awarded the Mizzou Ring Award through the Mizzou Alumni Association. Kara was nominated by her classmate and friend, Jazz Rucker, who described her commitment to the four values of the University. "Some people come to college for professional or career training; Kara just wants knowledge." We couldn't agree more. We are so proud of you Kara!

Theta wins the Founder's Award!

This summer, several Alpha Mu women celebrated their sisterhood with women from all over the country at Kappa Alpha Theta's Grand Convention. The event, which brings together collegians and alumnae for an unforgettable experience, was held in Tucson, Arizona this year!

During the week, they recognized the women and chapters who have made outstanding contributions to Theta and the community. We are so honored to be recognized among such a fantastic group of women.

This year, the Alpha Mu chapter was awarded the highest honor of Founder's Cup! This award is given to the most outstanding chapter in the nation. A huge thank you to the wonderful women in our chapter whose time, commitment and passion contributed to this award. We are so proud of the Alpha Mu women who created, left and inspired a legacy of excellence for generations to come.

Eat Pray Love-Theta Edition!

Eat Pray Love is coming to theaters this week, but for four Thetas, the Italian adventure began this summer! Courtney Scott (MC '07), Madi Moedritzer (MC '07), Taylor Ebert (MC '08) and another fabulous Theta who is serving on Panhellenic, spent a month exploring the beautiful city of Bergamo, Italy. When the women weren't attending class through the MU Business School, they tasted delicious Italian food, rode scooters through the city and visited historical sites. They even took advantage of their time in Europe to visit Paris, Barcelona, London and other gorgeous cities. Anyone else as jealous as I am?

Spotlight on: Cassie Batchelder, International Intern!

Some people like chocolate, and then there's Cassie Batchelder (MC '08).

The self proclaimed chocoholic swore off the sweet for lent this year. But now that she's spending the summer in Brussels, home to the world's best Belgian chocolate, she's not holding back!

Cassie, who is participating in the Missouri School of Journalism's summer internship program, is living in Brussels, Belgium from May 17 to July 31st. The center of the European Union, NATO and Europe in general, Brussels is the perfect place for this aspiring media lawyer to gain experience! Cassie is interning at Hume Brophy, an international political consultancy that lobbies the EU on behalf of some really exciting clients. Cassie is learning more about being an effect communicator every day.

In addition to taking classes, she's also finding time to have some fun! Cassie is enjoying the start of the World Cup, exploring Brussels and traveling all over Europe. She is already planning on visiting Bruges, Antwerp, Amsterdam, London, Stockholm, Paris and Rome! "It's been a fabulous month of learning, traveling and having a blast!" Cassie said.

Spotlight on: Melanie Gibson, Arts and Culture Intern!

If you want to know what's going on in Bend, Oregon, Melanie Gibson (MC '08) is your go-to girl! Melanie is interning at The Source Weekly, an arts and culture weekly newspaper in her hometown. So far, she's had the opportunity to manage the website, revamp the dining guide and write a weekly feature called "Cold Call." This week, she was an assistant in their summer photo shoot. Outside of her internship, Melanie maintains a blog for college kids in her hometown. And, she is even planning on climbing a mountain this month. You go, girl!

Spotlight on: Lizzie Fracica, World-Class Leader!

We are so proud of our own Lizzie Fracica (MC '08) who is going above and beyond as a leader on campus. This year, she was elected president of the prestigious Omnicron Delta Kappa (ODK) secret society on campus. Even while on vacation, Lizzie continues to shine! She was recently selected to participate in the Sue Shear 21st Century Leadership Academy. 34 other girls from universities across Missouri gathered to network with incredible women — including Mavis Thompson (President of the National Bar Association), Georgeanne Nixon (the governor's wife), Audrey Fleissig (the U.S. Magistrate Judge) and many others. The women debated a bill on the floor of the House of Representatives, enjoyed lunch in the governor's mansion, learned how to successfully campaign for public office and took home many words of wisdom from these incredible women. "This was a truly invaluable experience and I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned with my fellow Thetas and other women leaders across campus," Lizzie said. We can't wait!

Some people practice their Spanish in a cramped classroom — others do it big and spend the summer in South America!

Our lovely Kate Bohnert is having the time of her life in Cusco, Peru. In addition to studying Spanish, Kate is volunteering in an orphanage a few days a week after classes. The pre-med student is also excited to be working at a local hospital where she is gaining great experience.

Just a few weeks in, Kate has already visited Peru's capital, Lima, and explored Pre-Incan ruins. The group she is traveling with also plans to visit Lake Titicaca and Machu Picchu this summer. No stranger to adventure, Kate even planned her own side trip to the Galapagos Islands. For you history buffs, those are the same islands where Charles Darwin studied endemic species!

It's the summer of weddings! We are so excited for our own Megan Marlborough (MC '06) who married her high school sweetheart last week! The now Mrs. Alphin danced for Theta for four years, so we knew we were in for a treat at the reception. In true form, she didn't disappoint! Megan graduated this year and will be entering her second year of physical therapy school. Thetas traveled from all over to celebrate with Megan and Anthony in Lee's Summit . The two are now honeymooning in St.Thomas. Congratulations Megan and Anthony!!

From interviewing celebrities at KTLA 5 and E! News to covering the latest games at FOX Sports, this Chicago girl is quickly falling in love with the LA life! We are so proud and excited for this ambitious young woman!

Mi Casa es Su Casa Raises $5000!

Theta's second annual Mi Casa Es Su Casa was a huge success! The late-night Mexican dinner — held at our own chapter house — raised $5000 for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)! Local businesses donated the materials and Thetas worked in the kitchen until 3 a.m. serving quesadillas, mouth-watering nachos and a salsa bar! Twinkling lights and festive decorations kept the crowds coming from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.! Everyone had a great time catching up with friends, munching on delicious food and raising money for a great cause! We're already looking forward to our annual late-night pancake breakfast in the fall! A huge thank you to our wonderful Internal Philanthropy Chair, who is currently serving as a Pi Chi.

Theta and BYX Serve Columbia!

This year, the women of Theta have enjoyed getting to know the men of Beta Upsilon Chi (Brothers Under Christ), a new Christian fraternity on campus. The men have been a huge help with our philanthropy events, and over the past few weeks we were so excited to have an opportunity to serve with them as well!

First, we participated in their Island Party Carnival. The carnival was held at Grace Bible Church in Columbia for kids of all ages to enjoy! BYX invited other sororities to host booths for the guests. We had a great time working with the other sororities and making new friends with the men of BYX. Our booth was even selected as the winner, earning us $500 for CASA! A special thank you to our own Alex Cataldo (MC '07) who helped organize the event!

A couple weeks later, we spent the day with the men of BYX at Coyote Hill. This local nonprofit organization provides housing and care to abused and neglected children. This cause, which is very similar to the work of Court Appointed Special Advocates, is something we are really passionate about in Theta. We spent the day playing games, painting faces, helping out around the facility and having a great time! We are so excited about our partnership with BYX and look forward to working with them again in the future! A huge thank you to our Service Chair, Kat Clark (MC '08) for organizing such a fantastic event!

During Mom's Weekend, several of our members were recognized for their contributions to the chapter, campus and community. Here are the recipients of the 2010 Alpha Mu Scholarship award! A huge thank you to our advisors for selecting these fantastic women!

Kassie Hyde

Kassie is a sophomore with a dual major in Biological Sciences and Spanish. She currently serves Theta as the Vice President of Education. Outside of Theta, Kassie pursues undergraduate research and serves on the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council and the Student Health Advisory Council.

Kelsie Blakley

Kelsie is a junior majoring in Secondary Education with an English emphasis. She is currently serving as Theta's V.P. of Administration. In years past, she served Theta as Intramurals Chair. On campus, Kelsie serves on the College of Education Student Council and is a member of Pi Lambda Theta and Phi Kappa Phi. She also dedicates several hours a week as a Young Life leader for Mid-Missouri Young Life.

Kallie Brown

Kallie is a freshman majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in French. Even with a demanding schedule, Kallie still finds time to participate in all things Theta! She participated in the Homecoming skit, is an active member of the Theta Bible Study, volunteers for Theta's philanthropy and blood drive and loves spending time with her sisters. Outside of Theta, Kallie is involved in the Pre-Med Society, Biochemistry Club and Sustain Mizzou. She also volunteers at the University Hospital and the Ronald McDonald house.

Erin Keiser

Erin is a junior majoring in Business. Before currently serving as Theta's V.P. of Finance, Erin was also elected Finance Deputy and Alternate Panhellenic Delegate. Erin, who has extensive experience as an intern at the Tigers Credit Union and an employee at the Cottages of Columbia, excels in her role of V.P. Finance. She also served on the Homecoming Core Committee, the Society of Advancement of Management and Residence Hall Government.

Laura Young

Laura is a sophomore majoring in Nursing. She currently serves as Theta's Recording secretary. When Laura is not dancing for Theta recruitment, GAMMA, Homecoming, RAMS or Greek Week, she is a member of Golden Girls, serves on GAMMA steering committee and is Tau Kappa Epsilon's Sweetheart.

Mary Fama

Mary, a sophomore majoring in Art, brings her creativity to every aspect of our chapter. She is currently serving as Theta's Events Chair. Last year, she served as Historian and Banner Chair, spending hours creating award-winning displays for banner competitions. Last year, she was elected Head of Campus Decorations for Homecoming. Her designs won over the judges, who awarded us first in House Decorations! Outside of Theta, Mary is a member of the Outreach Student Recruitment Team, a photographer for the Mizzou Publication Office, and a member of the Homecoming Steering Committee for 2010. This year, we are looking forward to Mary's role as recruitment committee chair. We are confident she will do a beautiful job!

Kristin Minzenmayer

Kristin is a junior double majoring in Strategic Communications and Business Marketing. Last year, Kristin was elected to Theta's executive board as V.P. of Education. She also serves on the Membership Development Committee. Outside of Theta, Kristin is involved in the Outreach Student Recruitment Team and the Society of Professional Journalists. She was also recently selected for MOJO, a professional advertising agency that focuses on the Youth and Young Adult market. Kristin looks forward to serving on the leadership team each summer at Camp Balcones Springs, her second home.

Dana Demott

Dana is a senior majoring in Journalism with an emphasis in Strategic Communication. She served as Theta's V.P. of Education and Education Deputy. On campus, Dana devotes her time to the Alumni Association Student Board and MOJO ad. During her sophomore year, Dana was selected as a Summer Welcome leader, a huge honor on the Mizzou campus. At this time, Dana was also tapped into the QEBH honor society. As the youngest member, Dana was selected to serve as the President during her senior year. Next year, Dana will be obtaining her Masters in Education while participating in Teach for America, an organization that places recent college graduates in urban and rural schools to improve America's educational system.

Thetas enjoy a beautiful Mom's Weekend

The sun was shining and the flowers were in full bloom to welcome our moms for the 2010 Theta Mom's Weekend! The beautiful Spring weather was perfect for a fabulous weekend together in Columbia! First, we laughed until we cried at the Deja Vu comedy club. Then, we enjoyed a delicious brunch, silent auction and senior program at the Columbia Country Club the following afternoon. The women donated over eighty gifts to the silent auction, which raised $4,057 for renovations to our chapter house. Alpha Mu scholarships were also awarded to exemplary women in our chapter. Afterwards, the women were free to explore Columbia! Many women went shopping, enjoyed frozen yogurt downtown and introduced their moms to their favorite Columbia hot spots! A huge thank you to our event planner Mary Fama for organizing such a great weekend!

ELCs are recent college graduates that serve as the official representatives of the national fraternity. The women travel the country each year to meet with chapters and help them develop strategies for sucess. The women, who have a thorough knowledge of the fraternity, are highly visible role models for Thetas nationwide. Women and their dates dressed alike for a night of dancing at Los Cabos Lakeside. The beautiful venue overlooking the lake was the perfect place to kick off spring break. Thetas Celebrate Their Sisterhood!

This week marked Theta's annual sisterhood week! The week-long festivities gave members an opportunity to celebrate each other and the sisterhood they share. Here's a look at the fun activities we participated in together!

On Monday, we threw a party at the house for the women celebrating birthdays in the month of March. "Birthday Night," complete with cake and ice cream, was inspired by the women of Gamma Phi Beta on campus. The women are already looking forward to the April celebration!

In addition to Birthday Night, Thetas celebrate by taking their sisters to dinner and decorating their rooms at midnight!

Wednesday, which marked St. Patrick's day, called for another celebration at the house! Chef Roy prepared festive Irish food to help the women ring in the holiday!

On Friday, we took a moment to celebrate our other sisters on campus. Each year, we "adopt" a Mizzou gymnast by supporting her during her season. We invited the entire women's team to a spaghetti dinner before their meet on Saturday.

After pasta night, Thetas changed into their pajamas and settled in for a sleepover at the house, complete with snacks and movies!

On Saturday, the women woke up bright and early to head down to the Lake of the Ozarks! Our event planner, Mary Fama, collaborated with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma to organize "Kites, Keys, and Cardigans," a special sisterhood event at the J Crew outlet. J Crew welcomed us with sparkling lemonade and cookies as the women shopped for Spring threads together!

Thetas enjoy Masquerade Ball at the Blue Note!

Masks couldn't even hide the excitement on our faces as we celebrated our annual formal last weekend! The "Masquerade Ball," held on Friday, was a huge success! To start off, Chef Roy treated us to delicious hors d'oeuvres at the chapter house where the women posed for pictures with their friends. After that, the women and their dates hopped onto the bus and headed to the Blue Note downtown. This historic venue, which has held hundreds of famous musicians over the years, transformed into a magical masquerade setting. A giant screen flashed music videos overhead as DJ Z spun new tunes and mixed in throwbacks. This was our first time at the Blue Note and the women had an incredible time! Special thanks go to our event planner, Mary Fama (MC08), who put together this fabulous social!

Spotlight on Ashley Crimaldi!

Each week, we honor a member of our chapter who goes above and beyond in giving back to Theta, Mizzou and the community. We are proud to recognize senior Ashley Crimaldi (MC 06), who dedicates her time to fighting for local and global issues.

Ashley, who is passionate about speaking up against human trafficking, is a member of Stop Traffic. This student organization is dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking. She also serves as the student representative on the board of the Central Missouri Stop Human Trafficking Coalition (CMSHTC). This non-profit organization is made up of a variety of service providers, health care professionals, professors, law enforcement personnel, etc. These board members are dedicated to serving victims of trafficking, prosecuting cases, raising awareness and improving trafficking policy in mid-Missouri. CMSHTC also works with local service providers to make sure victims are protected and receive proper services.

Ashley was tapped into the prestigious LSV Society, a secret society dedicated to promoting and improving the status of women

On February 27th, Ashley worked with Stop Traffic to organize a full conference on human trafficking. They discussed a variety of issues associated with modern day slavery. We are so proud of Ashley, who is working to bring an end to this and other serious issues in our society. Keep up the hard work, Ashley!

Thetas Chosen for Mizzou Outreach and Journalism Ambassadors

It's the season of applications, and we are so proud of all the Thetas who are dedicating their time to organizations all over campus! With hundreds of campus groups to choose from, students have the opportunity to get involved in the organizations they are passionate about. Many Thetas are committed to reaching out to high school students and introducing them to everything they love about Mizzou. This year, two students were selected for the Mizzou Outreach Student Recruitment Team. For the next two years, Lauren Sharp (MC 09)and Rebecca Johnson (MC 09) will attend Meet Mizzou Days, Black and Gold Days, college fairs and other events for high school seniors visiting our university. We are so excited to have such fabulous women representing our campus, Greek life and Theta! Congratulations girls!

In addition to Mizzou overall, many students come from all over the country to visit our famous journalism school! The Missouri School of Journalism, the first of its kind, offers incredible hands-on experience for aspiring journalists. To help students, alumni and guests experience all it has to offer, Journalism Ambassadors are selected to give tours and represent the J-school at important events. Among them, two Thetas, Rebecca Berg and Catherine O'Neill, were selected to serve as Journalism Ambassadors next year! These women, who are also big/little sisters, are thrilled to represent the J-school together!

Mizzou Homecoming is one of our favorite traditions at Theta! From pomping our hearts out to cheering from the sidelines at the big game, our members love coming together to celebrate Mizzou, Greek life and tradition! Homecoming, which was founded at Mizzou in 1911, is one of Mizzou's proudest traditions. Therefore, the Alumni Association only chooses the best of the best to organize the event each year. We are so proud of our members, Mary Fama (MC 08) and Kelly Heins (MC 08) who were selected for the 2010 Homecoming Steering Committee!

Six Thetas Chosen for Mizzou for Malawi Steering Committee!

Each year, Thetas come together to participate in Mizzou for Malawi. This incredible cause supports a school for orphans in Salima, Malawi. Last year, the campaign raised over $25,000 which funded the construction of the school. This year, they are aiming to raise an additional $8,000 for school supplies and uniforms for students. The campaign, which raises money through donations, t-shirt sales and a fantastic benefit party, also raises awareness for Malawi, global poverty and education. We are proud to have four* of our members serving on the executive board and six members on the steering committee for this admirable campaign!

Six Seniors Chosen for Mizzou '39!

At Theta, we are blessed to have seniors who thrive in our chapter, campus and community. Each year, the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board honors 39 outstanding seniors who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and service to the campus and community. Out of these 39 seniors, we had six women from our chapter selected! In addition to an unveiling ceremony and reception, the recipients were honored at a recent Mizzou basketball game and Mizzou '39 Banquet. We could not be prouder of these women, who have all made a significant impact on our fraternity and the campus as a whole. Christine Matthews, Anna McLaughlin, Taylor Rausch, Liz Braun, Janie Gibson and Laura Eisenbeis-thank you for your admirable service and leadership! We cannot wait to see the wonderful things you do in the future!

Theta rocks for a cause!

When it comes to rockin' the house, Theta has it down! Last weekend, we participated in Rockin' Against Multiple Sclerosis. This campus-wide philanthropy, which raises over $73,000 for awareness and support for people living with MS, culminates in an annual lip-syncing competition. Theta's legendary Hairspray performance in 2007, their memorable "Strongest Suit" dance from Aida in 2008 and their Greek-inspired "We are the Muses" number in 2009 all brought home first place in Rock-It!

This year, Thetas dazzled the crowd again with their "Dreamgirls" performance! The show won over the judges, who awarded them first place in Rock-It for the fourth year in a row! Women who weren't rockin' it on stage cheered from the audience in the Blue Note. Thanks to all the hard work by our members, Theta placed third overall in RAMS week!

Several Thetas also performed a fun, upbeat IBA featuring music from a Theta favorite, Glee!

Thetas celebrate their "sweethearts" at the Uppercrust for Valentine's day!

Last weekend, the Theta house was overflowing with chocolate, roses and candy for Valentine's day. The women, who celebrated their "Theta sweethearts" and each other, dressed in red and pink for our annual Valentine's day party. Our very own Chef Roy and Fresh Ideas made the night extra special by catering endless platters of delicious food--including chocolate covered strawberries! Afterward the women and their dates piled onto buses and headed to the Uppercrust, where they danced and brought in the holiday at midnight! A special thanks to our event planner, Anna Pleus for organizing this fabulous event.

Theta Hosts "Telling the Truth About the Lie"

Last week, we partnered with the women of Zeta Tau Alpha, the Panhellenic Association and the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation to host "Telling the Truth About the Lie." This engaging program, which was open to the entire community, was presented by Kali Schnieders and Dr. Richard Fowler. Kali, whose own daughter battled Anorexia, shared her experience while Dr.Richard highlighted the medical and psychological effects of the disease. The presentation, which included photos, music and Kali's compelling story, was extremely moving. The women walked away with a new understanding of the disease and ways to prevent it in their own community.
