Philanthropy Football Face-Off!

This year, we hosted a brand new event to conclude our philanthropy week: a flag football tournament! Boys could pay to enter teams of seven, and we all met at Hinkson Field on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for the games. Whether Greek or not, everyone was welcome to participate. Each team was coached by a couple Thetas, and the winners received a generous gift card! This event was a great way to raise additional funds and awareness for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Along with the football tournament, Theta also sold Fantasy Football rosters and hosted a tailgate for the Mizzou vs. Baylor game. For the tailgate, we served lemonade and popcorn, and sold parking spaces. Thanks to everyone who helped make our philanthropy week a success!

Pancakes for CASA

Last week was our annual philanthropy benefitting Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). On Friday, we hosted our famous late-night-all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Early in the evening, we invited CASA kids and volunteers to enjoy our delicious pancakes, and from 11:00 pm to 3:00 am our dinner was open to students and Columbia community members. Thetas cooked, waitressed, and cleaned to make the event a huge success. Special thanks to Waffle House for donating all of the pancake batter, and also to all other businesses who helped us! The young men from Beta Upsilon Chi stayed until 4:00 am to help us sweep, mop, and move furniture. It was so nice getting to know them better...thanks guys! Philanthropy Chair Elizabeth Weishar has been busy planning this event for months, and Friday was actually her birthday! What a great present to raise hundreds of dollars for CASA. Elizabeth, we appreciate your hard work and dedication!

Miss Kappa Alpha Theta

When it comes to pageants, a few women in Kappa Alpha Theta have all the answers! Andrea Elder, of MC '08, competed in Miss Missouri USA the first weekend of November. This was her first pageant, and she won 4th runner up! She represented Lee's Summit of the Kansas City area. We are so proud of Andrea, and love looking at all of her pictures and hearing her stories!

Andrea had a couple older Thetas to look up to while preparing for the pageant. Over the summer, Malorie Howe and Janie Gibson of MC '07 competed in Miss Missouri. They were extremely poised and elegant during the pageant, and Janie received a talent award accompanied with a scholarship! Malorie and Janie are pictured below with Malorie's grandmother, Alpha Mu alumna.

You Can't Stop A Train...

For Homecoming, Theta/FH/Phi-Delt's skit took second place overall in Talent! This also went along with the Little Engine That Could theme. Skit directors Lexy Martin and Sandy Ruiz worked tirelessly to deliver an excellent performance! The plot was a clever Mizzou twist on the traditional children's tale, involving the common problem of not being able to find parking on campus, two evil Texans, Mizzou landmarks as characters, and the use of Ellis Library as a jail. It was extremely entertaining! But acting was not the only way Theta showcased their talents: dance director Kat Clark choreographed two solid dance performances, and Megan Marlborogh and Cara Keeble performed in the all-Greek Production dance. Megan was actually one of two overall choreographers! Thanks to everyone who helped with Talent, from acting to lights and sound!

St. Louis 10K: Thetas in a Half-Shell!

Four Theta seniors recently ran the Halloween 10K in St. Louis. Kate Pfizenmaier, Lydia Beck, Mary Beth Reed, and Lindsay Breedlove are four roommates who decided to do this 6.2 mile race together. They dressed as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and had a great time! Nothing beats achieving a goal with your Theta sisters!

Campus Decs - We KNOW We Can!

As mentioned in the previous post, Theta/FH/Phi-Delt placed 1st in Campus Decorations! Our theme was "The Little Engine That Could," and the boards looked great! For anyone who is not familiar with Campus Decorations, they consist of anywhere up to 16 boards that are "pomped" with tissue paper and other materials. We worked on the boards and the characters the month leading up to Homecoming. We had two scenes, and our engine even made it over the mountain! Thanks to everyone who put in all of the hard work and effort to make our decorations fantastic. Mary Fama, Annie Hildebrandt, and Trea Thomas served as committee heads, and we are so grateful!
