A Summer of Theta Weddings!

Already this summer, there has been not one, but two Theta weddings! Both brides were members of MC '05: Amanda Mennemeyer and Amy Oberle!  Amanda became Mrs. Fisher late May, and Amy became Mrs. Schirmer just over a week ago.   Amanda spent the last year in physical therapy school at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, while Amy just graduated from Mizzou with a degree in elementary education.  Both women looked incredible at their wedding, and had plenty of Theta sisters their to support them! We are excited for them as they start their new lives!

Ashlen Snellen - Fashion Forecaster!

When it comes to having a summer "dream job", Ashlen Snellen of MC '07 takes the cake! She is interning in New York City for the Tobe Report, which is a part of the Doneger Group -- the largest, most recognized fashion and trend forecasting company in the industry!  So far, her internship has been jam-packed: she makes daily visits to New York showrooms, including Michael Kors.  She has gone to press previews for BCBG and Vera Wang.  She has even gone to fashion shows such as Zac Posen.  The past few weeks have been "market week", where buyers buy for their stores.  Ashlen sits in on meetings with clients as her company tells them about future trends.  She also spends a lot of time flipping through runway images from NY, Paris, and Milan as she watches for different styles to include in her report.  Ashlen is living in an NYU dorm with an amazing view of the skyline. On the weekends, she explores the city...she even had a personal tour of ESPN and a private viewing of Sportcenter!   One afternoon while she was exploring the city, she met a Theta from UVA and the two hit it off immediately!  It turns out that this new found Theta was roommates with Kate Raymond's sister! (Kate is a senior Theta here at Mizzou.) Even in New York City, the world doesn't seem that big! We are so excited for Ashlen and cannot wait for her to come home and share the rest of her stories!

You Never Know Where You'll Meet a Theta

It is always great to meet a Theta alumna! While visiting family in Texas, Christine Mathews snapped a quick photo with a Theta from Auburn.  She still had her kite! Last week while Laura Eisenbeis was in the Virgin Islands, she met Alpha Mu alumna Lynn (Biggs) Malir of MC '80.  Lynn had just recently returned to 603 Kentucky for the Centennial Celebration!

Summer Fun in KC!

Nothing kicks off the summer better than a baseball game with your sisters! Nine Thetas from the Kansas City area went and cheered on the Royals as they faced the Cleveland Indians.  With members from both MC '07 and MC '08, it was a great night! To make it even better, the Royals won 6-5.  Even away from our home at Mizzou, we can always find a fellow Theta or two for some summer fun!

Taylor Rausch Wins Founders Memorial Scholarship!

Congratulations to Taylor Rausch, of MC '06, for recently winning one of four Founders Memorial Scholarships! Kappa Alpha Theta was founded by four incredible women: Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw. Every year, the national Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation awards four outstanding juniors across the country with the Founders Memorial Scholarship. Theta chapters nominate one junior they believe deserves such an honor. Each winner is “paired” with the founder with whom she shares similar characteristics, and Taylor was paired with Bettie Locke Hamilton! We are so proud of Taylor and everything that she has accomplished throughout her collegiate career, and we also thank the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation for their generous gift.

CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS!!!!

We would like to congratulate our senior Thetas on graduating! They have been a vital asset to this sorority for the past four years, and they will be greatly missed! We are so excited for what the future holds for them; their paths will take many across the country, from Colorado to Washington D.C., in careers ranging from engineering to advertising.  We even have a Theta joining the Air Force! Many of our seniors are going to continue their education, either through graduate school, law school, or medical school.

Seniors, we are so proud of you--We love you and wish you the best!!!

Three Thetas Complete Triathlon!

Emily Moorkamp (MC '06), Erin O'Brien (MC '07) and Andrea Barnard (MC '07) participated in the TriZou Triathlon the first weekend of May.  The event started and ended on Mizzou's campus, and athletes traveled throughout the Columbia community.  The TriZou began with a 440 yard swim, then a 14 mile bike ride, and ended with a 3 mile run.  Eight hundred individuals participated, and a couple of our Theta athletes did the event with members of their family.  Multiple Thetas attended the TriZou to cheer on the girls as they crossed the finish line.  We are so proud of Emily, Erin, and Andrea for completing this challenging feat!
