Summertime

During the summer, Theta's continue to participate in as many different activities as during the school year. This summer, there are Theta's involved in everything from studying abroad to internships to mission work. Every week we will update the blog and highlight some of the amazing things our women are doing!

Kaleigh Turner (MC '09) and Katie Lally (MC '10) jetted off to Europe shortly after finals to study abroad in Prague. While there, they have travelled all throughout Europe, taking in the sites and getting immersed in the culture.

Julie Bennett from MC '09 is interning in Memphis, Tennessee for an online marketing firm as a design intern. She is planning on making this a permanent position when she graduates this December.

Two of our members, Rebecca Johnson (MC '09) and Marie Schaller (MC '11) went to Joplin, Missouri for 3 days with the Cornell Leadership Program. While there, they worked with Catholic Charities on a commemorative art display, helped remove debris, and did housing construction.

Kite and Key

Every year we hold our annual Kite and Key social with the women of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the end of the spring semester. This year the theme was Kentucky Derby and people were dressed in anything from colorful dresses and big hats to horse jockeys! The event is always a great time and a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the year with our friends from Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Tap Day

Tap Day is a wonderful tradition at Mizzou where students and faculty members alike are recognized for their noteworthy contributions on campus. The six secret societies are an integral part of Mizzou's campus and each are unique in their own way. This year, there were six Theta's tapped into various secret societies! This is a huge honor and we give a big congratulations to these women

Sisterhood Event

Every semester, each sorority is paired with another that becomes their sister sorority for the semester. This semester, we were paired with the women of Delta Gamma. We decided to do a sisterhood event making crafts, eating snacks, and writing letters on behalf of Amnesty International. The sisterhood event was really successful and gave people the chance to mingle with women from Delta Gamma.

Mi CASA Es Su CASA

(Molly McConnell and Allison H)

Each year during the spring semester, Kappa Alpha Theta hosts our philanthropy fundraising event at our sorority house on campus. Our national philanthropy is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). CASA's central goal is to make sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, respected, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family. For $5, students can gain access to an all-you-can-eat Mexican dinner that directly benefits CASA. We have a great community here at Mizzou who comes and supports our Mexican food-themed philanthropy! Local businesses make monetary and food donations for the event. The ladies of Theta volunteer their time to either cook in the kitchen, serve food, or make decorations for the event.

(Meg Nichols, Alexandra Menz)

"Theta Loves Me" T-shirts are sold at each of our philanthropy events. These shirts are worn around campus by the boys and girls who pay $5 that go directly to CASA.

Theta's Fire and Ice Formal

(Alexandra Kent, Julie Fine, Ashton Hiatt, Juanita Ariza,
Alexandra Engel, Nikki Billen, Tzu Hsia, Madde Hinkfuss)

The ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta just had their formal this past weekend. This year's theme was Fire and Ice! The girls and their dates dressed in colors to fit the theme, and there was a photo booth and ice sculpture for the everyone's enjoyment!

(Fire and Ice Sculpture)

Formal was a huge success thanks to all the hard work the girls put in. Everyone is looking forward to next year's formal!
Greek Week

Each year, the members of Mizzou's sororities and fraternities participate in Greek Week--a week-long competition where sororities and fraternities pair up to compete in different activities. The activities include athletics--like basketball and flag football--and community service--like a blood drive and Greeks Giving Back. This Saturday, the ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta's basketball team, along with the men of Phi Delta Theta and Kappa Alpha Order won the Greek Week basketball championship! Thank you so much to all the support that was given to us on Saturday by the wonderful women of Kappa Alpha Theta! We couldn't have done it without you, ladies!

Tour Team

(Jordan Huss)
(Julie Fine, Juanita Ariza)

Congratulations to Jordan, Julie, and Juanita for representing Kappa Alpha Theta as new members of Mizzou's Tour Team! Tour Team is an organization that gives tours around Mizzou's campus to potential students and their families. Each year, there's a rigorous application process that ends with only a few applicants gaining membership to this prestigious organization. Three of Kappa Alpha Theta's girls were chosen this year. We are so proud of you girls! All three of you will be great additions to Missouri's Tour Team!

Tacky Tourist Crush Party

The ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta hosted a very successful "Crush Party" this past Thursday. A Crush Party is a social that allows each girl to bring two dates; either a best girl friend or a boy she may have a "crush" on. The theme for this past social was tacky tourists! All the girls and their dates loved the theme, some girls were even spotted wearing neon fanny packs and socks with sandals! Our event was held at Galactic Fun Zone and consisted of free bowling, laser tag and pizza for all the girls and their dates!
